A tall tree that can grow to 150ft at higher elevations, 230ft in the foothills. Bark on younger trees is dark gray which matures to reddish yellow-brown with deep, dark furrows.arrow

Pinus ponderosa

Needles are long and in pairs or threes and grow from 3" to 6" long. Female cones are large, woody and have a spine on the scale.
