Goldenweed (3)

The Goldenweeds in the genus Xanthisma have bristle-tipped leaves and phyllaries, and bright yellow flowers. As you can see from their many synonyms they have been reclassified many times. Xanthisma is the current name from Flora of North America.

Grows 1 to 2 feet with stems branched and spreading from the base. Leaves are sparse, greyish, deeply cut and narrow. Soft hairs give a silvery appearance. Flowers are borne singly at the top of a stem.

Grows with stems spreading and sprawling to 16". Leaves are numerous, also deeply cut but wider than the variety above. Flowers grow in clusters.

It was snowing when I took this photo so the flowers are not very happy, although still a bright yellow.

Grows to 15" with a single flower at the top of the stem. The narrow leaves are oblong and toothed with a bristle at the end of each tooth. It is not hairy like Spiny Goldenweed.
