Grows over 2ft tall with all branches attached to the stem at the same point. Flowers are pale green or tan and silky looking. Compare to Yellow Bluestem which is much taller and coarser.

Grows less than 1 ½ft tall with purplish-red flowers. Branches stick out at all angles in whorls like spokes of a wheel.
