Grows to 3 feet tall, shrub-like, with heart-shaped, veined, fuzzy, toothed leaves. Flower heads have purple-tinged phyllaries and less than 20 disk flowers, compared to Tasselflower. Leaves differentiate from False Boneset.

A shrub growing to 3 feet tall with many distinctive large triangular leaves and drooping flower heads. Flowers are up to 2" long and have more than 20 disk flowers compared to California Brickellbush.

A small rounded shrub growing to 2 feet high with rounded, sticky leaves about 1/2" long. Flower heads grow in loose clusters at the end of branches and are 1/2" long with 8 to 28 flowers in a tight cylindrical cluster. It is further distinguished by the bracts which curve outward.
