Grows to 18" in clumps with a stout stem. Flower spike is up to 2" long with papery bracts on the flowers. Flowers can be purplish.

Similar to Timber Oatgrass but spikelets are larger, ¾" long. The inside of the spikelet is fuzzy with hairs. D. parryi grows to 32" tall, taller than D. intermedia.
